Sammy Lane

February 6 @ 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm

Free

Accomplished pianist Sammy Lane will demonstrate all the wonders of our beautiful grand piano.  Sam was born blind, and started playing the piano at the age of 3 after listening to his mother play the piano in church. He performed his first concert in nursery school and began formal training when he was 7.   He attended the Bronx School for the Blind, where he learned to read Braille music, and obtained a degree in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio.   Sammy has performed at Travelers Rest for years, and he delights the audience by taking requests and playing nearly anything we can come up with!  It’s a rare occasion when someone names a tune he does not know, whether it is gospel, secular, classical,  jazz, blues, ragtime, pop, hip hop, rap or country.

This event will be in Busch Hall.

Ice Cream Social – Ice cream treats are available for purchase for $1.00  at the back of the hall, from 3:15-3:45 pm.
Announcements are at 3:45 p.m. and the show is immediately following.
