Repairing the Roads Letters

Apr 5, 2024

The following letters are examples of correspondence to request our county roads be paved. The Board of Directors strongly recommends that all residents send letters and attend the county commissioner’s meetings to request attention to our roads over the next couple of years. A special thanks to Jackie Thackery for developing these examples.

Dear Commissioners:

Please support our petition to schedule repair and maintenance of our Class A roads as soon as possible in the next year as they have not been paved for over 40 years. We are concerned that failure to have this accomplished will result in more major repairs being required in the proximate future, particularly if the base is lost. In the recent past, only about a third of our residents were year-round occupants. More are becoming permanent residents and remaining on sites full-time resulting in heavier road usage, wear and tear.

Our taxes provide income for County operations. Our park pays a heavy bill every season and the owners in The Village area of Traveler’s Rest pay our fair share. At least. it would be appropriate for some of our contributions to be applied to our pavements. Our situation is becoming urgent. Please help and thank you all for your commitment to providing our County and its residents with a quality of life appropriate for our tax base.

Sincerely,

Dear Commissioners:

I need to express my concern and request the Commissioner’s assistance regarding the condition of the Class A County Roads in Travelers Rest Resort. As a resident (and owner) I have been expecting maintenance since 2008. No re-paving has occurred. It has been over 40 years since anything was completed. The roads are cracking in many chunky-looking pieces. If the base is damaged the expense to repair/replace will be significantly higher. I do not want to see these streets reduced to anything less than new asphalt pavements.

Time is very important to the maintenance of “Our little piece of Heaven” here at TR. We do have some issues regarding uneven pavement, a dip on Busch Lane, a drainage grate or 2 on Bromwell and the need for another on Maple at the base of Busch. Please include assessment and management of these issues in whatever pian goes forward. We appreciate your support and consideration as well as concern for your constituents at Travelers Rest Resort. Our Manager, Ray Hill knows the issues evaluated during an estimate obtained by our Board of Directors in 2023. I know he can concisely summarize those for the County personnel. He may be reached at 352-588-2013.

Sincerely,

Dear Commissioners:

I am a resident and owner in Travelers Rest Resort, near Dade City, Pasco County, Florida. I have paid property taxes here for 20 years.

I am asking the Commissioners to request proximate scheduling and action regarding the repair and paving of our County rated Class A streets. These have not been paved for more than 40 years and are showing serious need of care before road bases require reconstruction. Busch Lane has many cracking and asphalt separations, especially at the upper end. A potential car damaging depression/dip was likely developed as part of the yard drainage system, but also shows sand and irregularities at its base.

The rain water does continue to flow rapidly down the hill and covers the carpeted lanai and back porch of 2523 at the base of the hill. Some sort of drainage installation is needed at the street level. This was a part of the estimate obtained by the Travelers Rest Resort Board (TRR) of Directors in late November, 2023, before the park learned of the County’s Class A designation. This estimate is available by contacting Ray Hill, Manager of TRR or Deborah May, Chairman of our Board of Directors. Their addresses are the same as above (replace 2807 with Office or 11-22.).

Thank you for your time reading and acting upon this request. We have over 600 sites in our park and we try to maintain a beautiful and functional resort, our little piece of paradise.

Sincerely,

Additional Ideas for Letters

  • Drainage issues, our 2023-24 estimate included some of these issues. These and amount of estimate and source avail. Per D. May, Board President, TRR.
  • Dip/Busch Lane
  • Reduction in quality of repair/future applications (undesirable chip and seal, gravel, etc.)
  • Condition of road surfaces: concern for additional maintenance required
  • Our taxes support county
  • Many more residents becoming full time
  • Worse conditions elsewhere/why would ours not be scheduled in the near future. We have not been paved in over 40 yrs.
